A Thanksgiving Story

It was the day before Thanksgiving. The turkeys quietly huddled together in a round circle, whispering their fears, who will be next? They witnessed Auntie Nora’s disappearance in 2007, Uncle Neddie in 2008, they were both so young. Quiet sobs exploded from Auntie Esther. The youngest members said they had come up with a plan. They placed a hat in the middle of the circle, they were to walk quietly in a circle until the cow moo’d, and whoever put the hat on first was safe. The ten turkeys began playing the game. The wearer of the hat took their place on the soft hay, and whispering gobbles on who they believed would be the last turkey to wear the hat filled the barn. Finally it was only Sister Sue and Brother Bobby. Beatrice the cow moo’d and S.S. and B.B. darted for the hat. Tail feathers flying, loud gobbling erupted and then…

Farmer Jim crept in, grabbing Little Woody
